I thought in advance of our discussion I'd share this article which gives a nice context to the themes presented in our homework. In lighthearted fashion it touches on the ways we judge ourselves, the ways we judge each other, and the psychological baggage we carry as mothers and daughters (and for some, as mothers of daughters!).
Excerpt from, A Mother's Day Uprising:
For additional consideration...Here's the deal, mommies: done is better than perfect and a happy family with dirty socks is 400 times better than a perfectly clean and scheduled family headed by a complete lunatic baking brownies at 3 a.m.

- I'm a little perplexed as to why (when I pull up this article) the Newsweek tab in my Firefox browser reads the following: "Why Working Moms Will Never Have Work-Life Balance." SOOooo not what this article is about. It's almost like they are subliminally perpetuating this crappy myth!!!!!
- Wacky Cake is a chocolate cake which requires no eggs, no milk, and virtually no time. Magic.

Thanks for the post Sarah.
ReplyDeleteI feel like surrounding myself with non-judgmental, like-minded friends makes mothering so much easier. It seems essential, really. Talking to other moms and discussing my challenges makes me realize that I am not alone in my feelings and that I'll get through whatever my current struggle is.
this is so great, on many levels. the photo is pure inspiration & freedom.
ReplyDeletea toast to dirty soaks and raisins in my pocket!
