I was going through some boxes in my closet this morning and came across a letter to Santa that I had written in 1st grade. The above photo is of two of the four, ridiculously detailed pages.
What I wanted most of all, more than anything, was a baby.

"Dear Santa, This is some stuff I want most for Christmas. On paper #1 are 26 names, eye colors and hair combinations. I will take any baby with one of these combinations. On paper #2 are the patterns for my new baby's pillow, comforter, blanket, teddy bear, crib, and changing table. I hope you can get me at least two things. On paper #3 are some new clothes..."

I made a special note at the bottom stating that I only wanted a real baby.
I designed all of the bedding in blue, green and yellow, and what's funny is that I remember running out of my room after drawing everything and showing my Mom. I wanted her design approval, which I'm sure she(very generously!) gave.
When I was only 2 I tried looking for baby seed packets amongst the fruit and vegetable seeds at the grocery store. That didn't pan out. But I'm sure Santa did bring me a baby doll that felt quite real enough for a six year old.

Just yesterday, I was thinking to myself how being a Mama is one of the few, unreasonably high expectations I have ever had that has turned out just right. Motherhood, despite its many challenges, is impossible to trump. No matter what, at the end of the day you still have this crazy love in your heart that will continue to fill and fuel you for the rest of your life.
A dream come true.

  1. Sierra, you were always so specific about your baby and how you imagined it would be. Because of those details, Finn is one lucky little chap!

Not only did your dream come true, but mine for you as well.

i agree with you about being a mother. i have pictured and imagined what it would be like my whole life. i certainly didn't see some of the challenges, but the love and seeing the world through their eyes is everything i dreamed it would be and more.
